Jacqueline-

Sometimes you just need to hear someone validating what you already know. I knew my story would help others all along. It's in a couple slide decks out there and linked to by a few job-seeker blogs, but any help you can lend in getting it in front of more people is appreciated!

Wow! Is this you Ian? I am in the EXACT same boat. I am working on a way to hopefully bring this idea to the awareness of recent college graduates that are feeling hopeless or lost as I did for so long until I found social media and the doors it could open. I think using social media and networking is extremely important since a reported 75-80% of jobs are found through someone you know. Unfortunately, many college students do not start building that foundation that will help them ensure success upon completion and continue to work in the service industry or at a job that doesn't allow them to grow thus losing some of the educational benefits they went to college to consume. I think you are spot on at describing the new tactics and proactivity we must have these days to land that "job" we went to college to get. Thanks for making me realize that I was/am not alone in my "floundering" around and my desire to use social media to not only help myself, but help others make these great connections and discoveries!

@Deborah-

I'm kind of at a loss....whew! It's all becoming a reality, and it wouldn't be the case if it weren't for you. I hope that suffices for now--I have to get my thanks in order. See you soon!

As Ian's new boss, I can say with authority that this strategy works. We would never have hired him - I would never have seen his resume - if he had not reached out using these tools in a smart, professional (not stalking) way.

I feel incredibly lucky to have him as part of my team.

I like that and I agree.
